City Businesses, Mayor Planting Civic Pride with Adopt-a-Spot

Grass and flowers are replacing concrete and asphalt alongside Somerville’s streets and in its intersections under Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone’s Adopt-A-Spot program.
"This is a partnership between the public and private sectors to build civic pride and beautify our city," said Curtatone.
While small steps had been taken prior to Curtatone’s term as mayor, such as installing flower boxes and putting grass alongside the Broadway corridor, Curtatone saw neighboring communities like Arlington and Cambridge outpacing Somerville in city beautification and was unwilling to allow such a disparity to continue, he said.
