Publicover withdraws Senate candidacy

By George P. Hassett

A candidate for the vacant 2nd Middlesex state Senate seat announced today he was ending his efforts.

"I am withdrawing my candidacy for personal reasons. I have been having health issues and I do not think it is right to run if I can’t give it my all," said Robert J. Publicover.

He said he did not want his candidacy to detract from any of the other campaigns.

"I  would not want to receive 1100 votes after running a half-hearted campaign and prevent a dedicated candidate, who may only be 700 votes short of winning, from having a shot," he said.

Publicover said he will likely endorse one of the remaining candidates by August 1.
