Telephone Workers Announce Support for Mackey
Local #2222 Endorses Joe Mackey for State Senate Seat

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.) Local 2222 has endorsed Joseph K. Mackey for the Second Middlesex State Senate seat, said Myles Calvey, Business Manager for Local 2222.

“We’re proud to announce that we have chosen to endorse Joe Mackey for state Senate. Joe’s experience, character, and drive make him the clear choice for Local 2222 and all working families in the Second Middlesex District,” he said.

“Working families in the 2nd Middlesex District need a strong legislator to make our district and our state a better place to live, work and raise a family.  It is vitally important that our next State Senator follows in the footsteps of Sen. Shannon – approaching the job with the integrity, commitment and vision that characterize the hardworking people of Medford, Somerville, Winchester and Woburn and making real gains for our citizens.  I believe that I am the person for the job, and I’m honored that the IBEW Local 2222 agrees and stands up with me in this important race for the Massachusetts State Senate,” Mackey said.

I.B.E.W. Local 2222 represents thousands of telecommunications workers in the Greater Boston area and has substantial membership from the Second Middlesex District, he said.

Calvey said Mackey was chosen over the other candidates because of his professional track record and personal attitude.

“As a legislator and a community leader, Joe has demonstrated integrity and a commitment to doing the right thing – he does not take the easy way out.  Joe stands up for what he believes and he gets things done.  We’re proud to stand with him in this election and will be proud to have him stand up for working families in the State Senate.”

Mackey said defending the working men and women of the commonwealth was a top priority and pointed to his 96% labor voting record as an example of that.

“I will be honored to stand with Organized Labor and be counted in the fight to ensure that Governor Romney and the Special Interests running our state off track are stopped and the voices of the working men and women of this Commonwealth are heard,” he said.

The 2nd Middlesex state Senate district seat was vacated by the death of Charles E. Shannon Jr. The democratic primary will be August 30th. The general election will be September 27th.
