Toomey endorses Callahan

Democratic state Senate candidate Michael J. Callahan today received a
significant endorsement for his senate campaign as 26th District State Representative Timothy J. Toomey Jr. ( D-Cambridge)  gave his support and endorsement to Callahan.

Toomey, who represents Somerville precincts 2 and 3 in ward 1 and precinct 2 in ward 2 which are each in the 2nd Middlesex Senate District, said Callahan was “an outstanding public servant who, in his many years of public service in both local and state government, has earned a reputation for helping people. His record of public service has been one of hard work and integrity, I have known Michael Callahan for many years and I know he will give the people of Somerville a strong and respected voice in the state senate. I look forward to serving with him in the State Legislature.”

“I am honored, said Callahan "to get this key endorsement from such a respected State Legislator, this is a major boost for my senate campaign. I look forward to working with Representative Toomey to address the issues that face Somerville, the 2nd Middlesex District and all of Massachusetts such as affordable health care, quality public education, providing local aid to our cities and towns and increasing the minimum wage for all working men and women.”

Representative Toomey joins Mayor Michael J. McGlynn of Medford and Mayor John C. Curran of Woburn as  local political leaders who have endorsed Callahan’s state Senate campaign in recent weeks.

The special Democratic primary election for state senator from the 2nd Middlesex District will be held on Tuesday August 30th from 7 am to 8 pm. The general election will be September 27th.
