Massachusetts Teachers Association Endorses Pat Jehlen

The Massachusetts Teachers Association, which represents 90,000 public school employees statewide, announced August 12 its endorsement of Representative Pat Jehlen in the special election for state Senate in the 2nd Middlesex district.

"The MTA is pleased to recommend Representative Pat Jehlen to our members in Somerville, Medford, Winchester, and Woburn," said Kerry Costello, the chair of the MTA’s Candidate Recommendation Committee. "She has been a stalwart supporter of public education and of teachers and educational support personnel in her 15 years in the House."

The MTA advocates for teachers, professors, and students in public schools across the state. They work to increase education funding, expand and support early childhood education, lower class sizes, and provide technology in classrooms.

"Representative Jehlen’s 96% voting record on MTA issues is testimony to her commitment to public schools and to students.

"The Massachusetts Teachers Association is a strong voice for children and for public education and I am proud to have their support, " said Representative Jehlen. "On the School Committee, as a State Representative, as a parent and former teacher I have worked with dozens of teachers on the issues that matter to our families. They know that quality public schools for all our children are the only way to ensure that every child has a chance to be successful. I am honored to have the support and help of so many teachers in my campaign for State Senate," said Costello.

The MTA endorsement comes on the heel of Jehlen’s endorsement from the other state wide teachers union, the Massachusetts Federation of Teachers. Jehlen has also received the endorsements of the Somerville Teachers Association and the Boston Teachers Union.
