SHS alumnus Antoinette Toussaint added yet another All-American title to her record of achievements.

Capping a remarkable career on the track for UMass Lowell, Somerville’s Antoinette Toussaint was crowned an All-American at the NCAA Track and Field Championship Saturday at Colorado State University’s Pueblo Neta and Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl.

Toussaint, a 2008 graduate of Somerville High, was recognized in both the 400 meter hurdles and the 4 x 400 meter relay. She finished in fifth place in the 400 meter hurdles with a personal- best time of 59.20 seconds.

Toussaint placed seventh in the preliminary round the day before to advance to the championship. She crossed at 1:00.17. Overall, nine members of the field of 20 moved onto the title round.

Meanwhile, in the 4 x 400 relay, Toussaint helped lead the River Hawks to a fourth place finish, as the quartet of Toussaint, senior Shannon Cunningham, junior Elizabeth Monty, and sophomore Taelour Murphy checked in with the school’s record time two days in a row.  On Friday night, the foursome finished in 3:40.28, but Saturday brought an even better result of 3:39.70.

Toussaint anchored the race, finishing the last leg in a strong 54.54 seconds. Cunningham led off with a time of 56.08. Murphy ran a quick 53.66 in the second slot, and Monty crossed at 55.22 in the third split.
