Help  create a map of public art in Somerville and win prizes.  Participate in a City-Wide Public Art Scavenger Hunt.

Submit what you find and your discoveries could be included in a walking map of public art. Prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories.

Here’s how you can help:

1. Discover a piece of public art in Somerville

2. Take a picture of it or describe it

3. Learn as much as you can about it (or stories associated with it)

4. Create a user account here and wait for your approval (or log in if you already have one)

4. Submit your information at http://somervilleartscouncil.org/node/add/public-art

What kind of public art will be included in the map?

All submissions must be permanent installations visible from portions of public property that can be accessed for free. For example, pieces can be in parks, in libraries, outside private homes visible from the sidewalk, or in parts of city buildings that can be entered without special permission.

Your discoveries might include sculptures, switchboxes, murals, mosaics, interesting stained glass or other things that we haven’t even thought of.

Project calendar

May 3- Official launch of the scavenger hunt

May 4 – Somerville Open Studios and scavenger hunt weekend

May 4- May 31st- Scavenger hunt continues

May 6^– Prize awarded for the most submissions by one person during open studios

May 13- Prize awarded for the most complete submission in the first week

May 31- Prize awarded for the most submissions during May, prizes awarded for the most pieces submitted in each neighborhood of Somerville and to the person who submits the most beautiful photos of public art (as determined by the project coordinators)

June and July – Launch of the map. Watch for events and celebrations as the map begins to be used.

Please note that final decisions about what to include in the map and on the Arts Council website will be made by the project coordinators and by the Arts Council.
