Goran Smiljic Accepts Position of Head of ISD as of April 29

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced today the hiring of the city’s newest Director of Inspectional Services, Mr. Goran Smiljic, who will assume the position as of April 29, 2013, taking over for outgoing Superintendent, Ed Nuzzo.  Smiljic, the Deputy City Engineer for the City of Utica, New York, had also served as Commissioner of the Codes Department, and Building and Housing Inspector in the same city.  He is a certified inspector in the state of New York.

“I am extremely pleased to announce the addition to our team with Goran Smiljic to head our Inspectional Services Division.  Goran has a lengthy and impressive employment history as code enforcement officer and certified inspector, and he brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise to Somerville which will benefit our community in so many ways,” said Mayor Curtatone.  “Goran stood out among numerous applicants for this position, and we are honored that he has agreed to join us, and particularly to relocate from his home state of New York to continue our mission of providing accurate, courteous and easy customer service to all residents, including those doing business with ISD.”

Goran accepted the position at the request of Mayor Curtatone following an extensive nationwide search.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from State University of New York, and holds more than 20 code inspector certifications. 

“In the coming months, Goran will be instrumental as we continue to streamline services at ISD, utilizing his knowledge and skills with technologies and methods he currently employs in Utica, and as we refine procedures for inspection processes to increase efficiency in the department,” Mayor Curtatone said.
