Girls’ track and field shines at Haverhill Invite

The Somerville High girls’ track and field team made a good showing at the Haverhill Invitational this past weekend.

Gelynne Berger won the 100 meter run, crossing in 12.9 seconds.

“It was a great win for Gelynne over some good competition,” Highlanders’ head coach Charlie O’Rourke said.

Alison Kaba placed fourth in the discus throw with a personal best toss of 96 feet.

Saragrace Magre finished second in the freshmen/sophomore 200 meter run with in strong time of 27.7 seconds.

“That’s a fast time,” O’Rourke said in praise in of Magre.

The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Berger, Kaba, Melissa Sanon, and Magre finished in sixth place with a time of 53.2 seconds.

Kaba and Sanon also competed in the 100 meter run and triple jump, respectively.

Also competing for Somerville were Shayla Tran and Olivia Doh in the 100 meter hurdles; Maureen McNabb in the mile; Tamika Michel and Lissa Sanon in the freshmen/sophomoreshot put; and Joanne Simon and Bianca De Barros in the javelin throw.

The Greater Boston League Freshmen/Sophomore meet is scheduled for today.
