Don’t forget tonight, Wednesday, is the saved date to help preserve a big piece of Somerville History in our city. Masons worldwide donate over $4,000,000 per day to help local charities and children around the world. Now the Highland Masonic Temple Association (HMTA) in Somerville needs your help to assist the King Solomon’s Masonic Lodge to help preserve the landmark historic church located at 125 Highland Avenue in Somerville. The association for the members of the lodge are hosting a HMTA 1st Annual “Night Out Comedy Night” at Giggles Comedy Club at Prince Pizzeria located on Rt. 1 in Saugus on Wednesday, March 27 at 7 p.m. For $25 per person you get a stand up comic show performed by world-class professional comedians, all the pizza that you can eat, a silent auction, drawings, and a fun time for all. More importantly, you will be helping to preserve the historic lodge building for generations to come. Remember reading in The News last week about the owner of that sub shop that we got a complaint about that told a customer to go $@*# themself after they complained about a bad sub? Well, it seems that one of the two owners called us up on Friday and first apologized about his partner’s ignorance, then apologized to us about the situation and promised to look into it and vowed that something like that would never happen again. He also vowed that he wants his shop to be one of the best sub shops in town. He was very sincere, apologetic and we believe him. We wish him all the best for a successful future here in the Ville. Always remember that the customer is always right!

Happy birthday to our good friend Dick Murdza who is turning 77 years old in the Ville this week. Also, Happy Birthday to a native Somerville Villen and Somerville High Graduate, Maria Tauro. Several other Villens celebrating this week are: Paula Brennick, who now resides in Rochester NY.  The one and only Ed Bean of City Hall fame, a nice guy and great with figures. He knows his math stuff, ask anyone up at City Hall. Karen Toner, who works for the school department. Mr. Jimmy Halloran (junior), who is married to Amanda and works as a Financial Analyst at UMass Boston. And how can we forget the best accountant and tax person, Ms. Diane O’Brien, whose office is right in Davis Square. She’s a busy lady. And finally, Douglas Wiswall, of the famous Paulina Street Wiswalls, a great family.

Condolences go out to the family of Vincent Macone on his recent passing this past week. Vincent was very nice guy and will be sadly missed. Vincent was also father of Somerville Police Officer Tommy Macone.

This event is an opportunity to meet RESPOND staff, board, volunteers, and learn about their life-saving programs, such as the Shelter, hotline, teen dating violence program, children services and many other great programs.

Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian and Mayor Joseph Curtatone will be there with many other state and local elected officials honoring Maryann, so don’t miss it.

Walk Deanna Home this Saturday, March 30 at 5 p.m. starting at the Winter Hill School upper schoolyard off Sycamore. Family and friends of Deanna Cremin will march the streets of Somerville once again in the hopes of generating new leads that may lead to the arrest of her murderer. This time we will symbolically walk Deanna ALL OF THE WAY home, passing where her boyfriend claims to have left her the night she was murdered. We will rally at the upper Winter Hill schoolyard and March up Sycamore St. to Broadway stopping at Deanna’s boyfriends house at the time of the murder (419 Broadway). We will make a brief stop pausing for a short moment of silence then making our way back down Broadway going left onto Main St. and taking a right onto Moreland St. then right onto Heath Street. Continuing down Heath with another brief at the corner of Heath and Bond St. (the halfway point where her boyfriend said he left her that night). From there we will go down Bond making a left onto Jacques St. pausing at the Elderly complex and then on down Jacques to Deanna’s old house parting ways from there returning to our cars. Family and friends of Deanna hope you will march with them in memory of that tragic night.
