Bomb threats called in to City Hall and high school

Somerville High School and Somerville City Hall each received phone calls today from a person who stated a bomb had been placed inside the high school.

The first call was received at the Main Office of Somerville High School at 7:20 AM. The caller stated a bomb placed inside the building would explode at 8:00 AM. Vice- Headmaster, Anthony Ciccariello, immediately called the Somerville Police Department, the Somerville Fire Department, and the Superintendent of Schools, who responded immediately. The building was ordered evacuated at 7:22 AM.

Under the direction of the school administration and the Somerville Police Department, the building was cleared of occupants. It was then searched for suspicious packages, bags or other items. None were found. It was decided, in order to maximize safety of all students and personnel, that the building would remain evacuated until after 8:00 AM. At 8:07 AM students, faculty and staff were returned to the building.
At 8:25 AM, a second bomb threat was received at Somerville City Hall regarding the placement of a bomb in Somerville High School. A fire alarm was pulled and the building was immediately
evacuated. Mayor Curtatone, Superintendent Pierantozzi, Headmaster Galligani and Vice-
Headmaster Ciccariello were on-site as the Somerville Police Department and Somerville Fire
Department again cleared the building of occupants, and swept the premises for suspicious packages and devices. Again none were found. The building was declared secure by the Somerville Fire Department, and classes resumed immediately.
A police investigation has been initiated. School is now in session.
