Lady Anchors beat Lowell Catholic Crusaders in OT
The Lady Anchors played their best game of the season Tuesday night against Lowell Catholic 64- 59. After a slow start, the Anchors found themselves in a 20 point deficit at halftime.
It looked like the Lowell Catholic Crusaders would have an easy win. However, in the second half the Anchors came out flying, cutting the lead to 8 after the third quarter.
Leading the way was the defensive intensity of senior captains Allison Caloggero (Medford) and Kristina Ofoedu (Methuen). Offensively, Sophomore center Sidney Cezil (Stoneham) had a breakout game collecting her first double-double of the year, scoring 14 points and collecting 20 rebounds.
To end regulation, down three, freshman point guard Katie Monestime (Somerville) hit a three off a sideline inbounds play as time expired. In overtime the Anchors had control the whole way and ended in victory 64- 59. This moved the Anchors up to second place in the Catholic Central League.
The Lady Anchors could not keep up the momentum and evened their overall record to 5-5 and Catholic Central League record to 3-2 with stinging losses to league rivals Marian 41-34 and Pope John of Everett 49-24. This week, the Lady Anchors will face off against Maimonides and Cathedral.
