A police patrol unit observed a pickup truck traveling the wrong way down Newton St., which is a one-way street, last week.

The vehicle was followed to an Everett St. residence and the operator was subsequently detained and questioned by officers.

When asked for his license, the operator reportedly said that he did not have it with him and also that he had just bought the truck.

When asked for his name and date of birth the man reportedly told police that his name was Sam Young and he offered a birth date that did not match up to RMV records.

Although the man produced a bill of sale for the truck, the plate on the vehicle turned up as having been stolen from another car. The man reportedly explained to officers that a neighbor had lent him the plate to pick up his truck after some work had been performed on it.

Upon examination of the vehicle’s bill of sale, officers noticed that the stated new owner’s name was Devin Young. A query revealed that this was the man’s true name, and also that his driver’s licensed was currently under suspension.

Young was placed under arrest and charged with operation of an unregistered motor vehicle, operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license, furnishing a false name or Social Security number, uninsured motor vehicle, attaching wrong motor vehicle, and failure to stop or yield.

Based on a neighbor’s testimony that his car’s front license plate had been stolen, Young was additionally charged with receiving stolen property.
