Two wounded in shooting, two under arrest

Somerville Police have arrested a 31 year old Malden man and a 16 year old female in connection with a Wednesday evening Temple Street shooting in which two people were wounded.   

At about 5:20 p.m., Somerville Police responded to reports of gunshots in the area of Temple Street and Memorial Road.  Upon arrival, police officers found two persons who had been shot while seated inside a car.  Both victims are age 20 and  from Somerville. A third person, also from Somerville, who had been seated in the car was not struck by bullets. 

The gunshot victims were transported to a Massachusetts General Hospital where they were treated for their injuries.  Their wounds are non-life threatening. 

The suspects in the shooting fled on foot and were described as a black male and a white female.  About two hours after the shooting, Somerville Detectives located Andre Scott Mitchell, age 31, 52 Maple Street, Malden, and a 16 year old juvenile female from Cambridge outside an apartment in the Mystic Avenue Housing Complex.  A 38 caliber handgun, believed to be the weapon used in the shooting, and a stun gun, were recovered by Detectives. 

Both suspects were subsequently arrested.  Mitchell is charged with armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm w/o identification card or license to carry a firearm, possession of a stun gun, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. He will be arraigned in Somerville District Court today.

The juvenile female was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. She will be arraigned in Juvenile Court.
