Barrios declares ‘small victory’ in sludge fight

Due to pressure from state and local officials, the Boston Water and Sewer Commission (BWSC) this week agreed to refile their proposal to move a sludge plant from Dorchester to Charlestown.    The BWSC will file a ‚ÄúNotice of Project Change‚Äù to the executive office of environmental affairs in the coming weeks.

‚ÄúThis is a small victory, but a very important one‚Äù acknowledged State Senator Jarrett Barrios.  ‚ÄúThis will allow the residents of Charlestown, Everett, and Somerville, who have been shut of this process, to now have their voices heard.‚Äù

It is unclear how the new proposal will affect state regulations.  What is known is that the new proposal will allow the residents of Everett, Somerville, and Charlestown to comment publicly which they were not allowed previously.
