Lucky One
Nine years ago, I cried.
Hollow words blew through my ears like winter,
when it’s too cold and nothing makes sense.
I didn’t want to believe it, but I had to.
You made everything better.
You let me sit with you and watch Disney movies.
You picked me up from the bus
so I wouldn’t have to walk alone in the rain.
You always said you were the lucky one.
Nine years ago, I stared at the roses,
red like passion, love, and blood.
My fingers brushed over the piano keys,
but the tears hit harder.
Nine years ago, I missed you.
It still hurts.
