The Streetscape Project continues its efforts to improve Davis Square.

One more meeting was held for the Davis Square Streetscape project at the Tab Building. It was an opportunity for the public to see where the city was headed with the project to and offer there own opinions regarding the information that was presented to them.

“Right now we are still at the gathering stage,” according to Mayor Curtatone. The goals of the project were re-stated, which includes a greater flow of Davis Square for drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians. Also, the desire of more green elements such as recycling stations has been expressed.

They city was able to determine what needed to be a priority focus of the project feedback that they gathered from residents. One area of concern was Elm Street at the intersection of Grove and Russell. The community learned the city considered adding a plaza there. The idea was met with some criticism, as some thought it would force people to relocate.

People voiced their opinions on what they themselves think is detrimental to the square. “The bikers are incredibly rude,” said one member of the audience. “It’s like they don’t even care. There are now no additional meetings currently set up for the Streetscape project. However, the city is anticipating that one will be held in December.
