The first annual Ryan Harrington Corn Toss Tournament turned out to be a huge success, netting $13,000 that will be distributed to local youth organizations in Somerville.
Saturday morning started off cloudy and rainy, but that did not deter the 49 men’s team and 11 women’s from participating in a corn toss tournament featuring hand-made boards, painted to honor the late Ryan Harrington with logos of his favorite sports team and symbols of his Irish heritage.
The day also featured special appearances by comedians Artie Janvario, Lenny and Mike Clarke, Tony V and Dave Russo who stopped by to kick off the tournament, as well as “Wheelz” the clown from Shriners who entertained the kids. The event was rounded out by raffles, 50/50’s, a silent auction, tee-shirts, pizza, soft drinks, scarves and other items for sale. Due to the generosity of Somerville businesses, raffles were held at both the tournament, as well as the after-party held at The Pub in Ball Square. The Pub also sponsored the event.
Congratulations goes out to Shaun Fisher and Joey Brennan of team “Fish Cakes” and Eileen Harrington and Colleen Lyons of “Ryan’s Ringers” for taking home the championships in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.
