All around nice guy Peter Forcellese was trying to retire from his job as Clerk for the Board of Aldermen, but it appears he needs to work some more hours for his retirement.    We‚Äôre big fans of Peter, who has been organizing for the ‚ÄúJohn T. Forcellese Memorial Fundraiser‚Äù for seven years – this year it will be on September 8th – we wish him success again this year.

Our sympathies go out to the Lynch family – Joseph Lynch, Sr. passed away on Monday and the wake will be at Doherty‚Äôs on Wednesday and Funeral Mass at St. Ann‚Äôs on Thursday.  Mr. Lynch led a long and full life – he was 95 years of age.  Joseph Lynch, Jr. – his son – is a candidate for Ward 5 Alderman‚ĶJoe was very close to his father and we extend our condolences to him and his family.

One of our Newstalkers was visiting Andover recently for a family and friends cookout (some say Somerville with trees) with over 60 people in attendance.  One of our Newstalkers was told that a prominent family member was considering running for State Senator up there.  Not unusual for former Somerville residents to run and get elected both around the state and the county.  We understand that Senator Tucker represents that district – and doesn‚Äôt the good Senator have an aide running here in Somerville for Alderman in Ward 7 – Rachel Heller against popular incumbent Bob Trane.

A fairly large crowd gathered at Vinny‚Äôs down in East Somerville this past Monday night for a fantastic dinner and a show that featured Las Vegas Variety Entertainer and Godfather Don ‚ÄúVito‚Äù Corleone look alike  – comedian Joe Beddia.  While they were at it, they took the liberty to surprise and wish Billy Tauro a happy 47th birthday with a big cake that was wheeled out during the show.  We think they were covering themselves in case anyone got towed‚Ķ.

Mayor Joe will be having his third annual Boston Harbor Cruise on Wednesday August 1st.  There should be a great crowd of the usual suspects and some new faces too ‚Äì Mayor Joe has become quite the popular Mayor.

It seems that the only ones that are constantly upset with Newstalk are the so-called “Progressives” – funny, we’re wondering if they give the Farm Team any grief for the same thing…we’d ask KP, but she’s busy listening to all those “Speak Out” voice mail messages and deciding which ones to print in that paper Рat least that’s what one former Farm Team writer told us…

Somerville says so long to someone who truly has cared for our city and its youth – Ms. Stephanie Almeida – a community organizer and one of Mayor Joe‚Äôs strongest supporters is moving to North Carolina.  Stephanie will be missed, she is always upbeat and carried a huge smile and wasn‚Äôt afraid to tackle hard subjects – we wish her well down South and we know she‚Äôll be on her best lady like behavior when it comes to debating issues down there.  Good luck Stephanie!

We hear that a branch of Bank of America will be opening soon at the old Palmer Video location in Winter Hill Рthis is interesting that Winter Hill will now have three banks – Citizens Bank, Winter Hill Bank (you know the Barracuda of Winter Hill runs this one) and now Bank of America Рthis is great for competition.

We hear that the convent at St. Ann‚Äôs is coming on the market for sale shortly, but that the zoning is only for two family dwelling – with the kind of money the church will be looking for and the size of the building, it should be more then just a two family.  We‚Äôre wondering what is going to happen to the school now that it won‚Äôt be used anymore.

The Sanctuary City Ordinance is coming up shortly for review and another vote after all these years, and a strong charge is being led by Alderman Bill Roche – who is against the ordinance and we agree with him here at Newstalk – lets hope that a majority of Aldermen can stand with him against this ordinance and vote it down.

Somerville Day last Thursday at Fenway Park was great for all those that attended ‚Äì it was nice seeing a lot of locals there‚Ķ.Ward 5 School Committee member Mark Neidergang was there, also there was candidate for Ward 6 Alderman Charles Chisholm with a large group of his supporters.  Richard Hart, formerly of Berkeley Street, was there with 3 of his 10 kids and some of his grandkids as well as our own Jamie Norton with his son Corey and daughter Kaitlin – fun was had by all and it was a great game ‚Äì they won!
