Somerville police arrested a Fitchburg man and a Randolph man for a daytime incident Wednesday in which gunshots were allegedly fired. Police said no one was injured in the shooting which took place at Pearl and Walnut Streets at 4:09 p.m. yesterday.

Billy J. Georges, 21, of 7 Flintlock Road, Randolph, and Thomas Giancarlo, 18, of 134 Simonds St., Fitchburg, were found at 111 Walnut St. and arrested for the shooting after "many citizens" helped detectives with the investigation, police said. Georges and Giancarlo were identified by witnesses as being involved in the shooting, police said. They were each charged with armed assault with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, unlawful carrying of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, receiving a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.

Police were first called to the corner of Pearl and Walnut Streets for a report of a fight involving bats. Police said officers arrived within one minute and recovered evidence of gunshots from the crime scene.

After Georges and Giancarlo were arrested inside 111 Walnut St., detectives searched the apartment with two K-9’s — one from the Everett police and another from the Massachusetts State Police — and found two guns used in the shooting hidden inside cereal boxes, police said. The guns were allegedly a stolen .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol and a 9 millimeter pistol with an obliterated serial number.

Giancarlo and Georges will be arraigned in Somerville District Court this morning.
