On Tuesday evening November 13th the Somerville Kiwanis Club had the honor of serving 120 Somerville Senior Citizens with hot turkey dinners (with all the fixins), apple pie and coffee at the Somerville High School Culinary Arts Restaurant. Upon finishing their meal the seniors were serenaded by the Somerville Karaoke Singers and $250 in cash prizes from the Kiwanis were awarded to the seniors.
According to club President George McLean, this annual event, sponsored by the Somerville Kiwanis Club, represents various groups from the community coming together to provide an enjoyable Thanksgiving event for our seniors.
The costs and the organizing of the dinner were provided by the Somerville Kiwanis Club, the singing and prizes were also provided by the Kiwanians, the Somerville High Culinary Arts students prepared the meal and the Somerville Girls Pride Basketball Team assisted the Kiwanians in serving the 120 meals and the clearing of tables. The seniors, with the assistance of the Somerville Council on Aging, donated $2 each. On behalf of the seniors the Somerville Council on Aging Executive Director Cindy Hickey presented a $300 check to the Somerville Girls Pride Basketball Team.
