The View From Prospect Hill

Prospect_hill_tower_1_3_8Compared to Watertown’s recount late last week, which was apparently a crazy scene and very disorganized, the recount at City Hall this past Saturday was very orderly and professional. It is a testament to the candidates, their supporters, the Election Department and the efficient voting system we have.

There are some of us here who remember some wild and crazy recounts in years past and while we miss the action and the excitement they brought, the professionalism is a breath of fresh air. Sure, it took hours and hours and ate up a whole Saturday, but it’s part of the process.

There are those out there who privately wished there was a bag of uncounted votes waiting to be discovered – the Oliver Stone/Indiana Jones delusional types – who think conspiracy first and reality second. It sure would have made for a good story in the paper, but couldn’t happen in this day and age.

Say what you will about Bruce Desmond and Tony LaFuente, but the reality is it wasn’t about one against the other – they were both part of the process to confirm the integrity of the vote. That’s all. Making it about one person against the other is just silly.

As far as what the two of them as candidates for elected office should take away from this years Energizertonytoon_2 election process РBruce has some work to do over the next two years to make sure he doesn’t have a close call again and Tony needs to keep plugging away, stay involved and try again – he obviously has supporters who share his vision and want to see him elected – and he shouldn’t back off for a minute. They both obviously care about this city and want to serve the public and they should both be applauded for that.
