This evening (Wednesday Feb. 13), Alderman Walter Pero is holding a meeting at the Mystic Activity Center at 5:30 p.m to discuss the updates on Assembly Sq. traffic planning, the wetlands along Shore Drive and the Winter Hill Market closing Рas well as other issues concerning Ward 4, along with Alderman Pero will be the new Police Chief РAnthony Holloway – they will both be there to answer any questions.

The same evening (from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.) at the Cross Street Senior Center, Alderman Bill Roche will be hosting a “Community Meeting” to discuss the proposed new designs for lower Broadway in East Somerville – again, all residents are invited.

Also, the East Somerville Neighbors for Change (our favorite community group) will host a meeting Thursday evening (Feb. 14 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.) at the Cross Street Senior Center on lower Broadway. Discussion will include – “Ideas for a Community Oversight Committee” as a way to monitor the IKEA hiring agreement, discussion with legislators for better crossing conditions on McGrath Highway and other topics of interest as well.

The next STEP (Somerville Transportation Equity Partnership) organized meeting will be for the Green Line station workshop on a proposed Union Square stop on Tuesday, Feb. 19 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Cummings School Gymnasium – 93 School Street.

The 6th Annual Brian Higgins Trivia Night will be held on March 13 from 6:00 p.m. onward at Good Time Emporium. There will be dinner, raffles, a silent auction, cash bar and prizes throughout the night. Proceeds will benefit the Brian Higgins Foundation – helping families with children with special needs have a fun quality of life at home. Scholarships will be given to SHS students studying special education or related services. Attention Juniors at Somerville High – there is still time to apply for the Tufts ‚ÄúLet’s Get Ready‚Äù FREE SAT and college prep program this spring! The orientation session will be held Tuesday, February 12th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and parents are welcome – the first diagnostic is mandatory and will be held on Thursday, Feb. 14 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Somerville High. If you can’t make it to the Thursday night diagnostic, you can take it on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Classes will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at Somerville High School. Condolences go out to the Roderick Family for the loss of their dad John, a WW2 veteran and a great guy! Mr. Roderick was the father of John Roderick, former state representative candidate. John Roderick Sr. will be missed – again, our condolences.

Somerville Little League and Softball are looking forward to another good year. One of the League‚Äôs major goals this year is to improve and expand the Somerville Little League Girls Softball Program. A new division of 7 to 9 year olds has been added and partnered with local colleges for clinics and a mentorship program. New managers and coaches are also being recruited. A few Davis Square business are up for sale. We hear Antonia’s is ready to be sold pending the transfer of a liquor license—it was a nice place just a little pricey for us, the Subway on Elm Street is up for sale and Boloco is also available.
