Police were called to a Marion St. residence last Thursday in response to a reported fight in progress between two women.

Officers arrived on the scene and found that one woman was bleeding and holding her head, claiming that the other had come upstairs to the third floor where she was with their mother and her sister. She further claimed that the other woman was in a drunken state and that she began hitting her with her fists and eventually struck her on the head with a teakettle.

The alleged victim’s mother and sister reportedly witnessed the attack and confirmed the story with police.

Other residents in the apartment building also confirmed the alleged victim’s report, police said.

The alleged attacker, Laura Devereaux, 41, was placed under arrest and charged with assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, the teakettle, which had apparently been broken during the alleged attack.
