Somerville celebrated its third “one city, one book” campaign, Somerville Reads 2012, this past weekend, a project that promotes literacy and community engagement by encouraging people all over the city to read and discuss books on the same theme.

This year’s theme is food: local, sustainable, and delicious. “Somerville Reads” Celebration and Potluck took place Saturday, April 21, at the Central Library.

The potluck featured live music from Somerville-based band Michael J. Epstein Memorial Library, food and recipes from community members and children’s activities. Attendees were asked to vote on the best dishes and the winners received gift certificates to area restaurants. Cookbooks, created by Friends of the Somerville Public Library, were available, and all proceeds went to support library activities.

On Wednesday, April 25, at 7 p.m., Sherman Café, 257 Washington St., will be hosting a discussion of Farm City led by Somerville Public Library librarian Kevin O’Kelly.
