Somerville High girls track update

The Somerville High School girls track athletes continue to score well as the season progresses.

Results of the GBL freshmen-sophomore meet held on Wednesday, April 18, at Cambridge are as follows:

Andrea Valladares took second place in the 2 mile with a time of 16:05.

Melissa Baptista won first place in the 100m Hurdles with a 17.6, while Taylor Machado came in third with a 20.8.

Saragrace Magre took third place in the 100m with a 14.6, and Tianna Sebastian clocked in at sixth place with a 15.6. Runners not scoring were: Adrianna Keefe-16.2, Casey Delaney-16.2, Leslie Duarte-16.2, Nina DiNatale-17.4, and Emily Milliken-18.8.

Kellie Haggerty placed sixth in the 800m. Not scoring were: Rachael Berry-3:02, Meghan Lynch-3:05, and Oneda Lalaj-3:10.

In the 400m, Cindy Mei took third place with a 73.8.

Delmi Hernandez placed second in the Mile at 6:12. Also running: Laxmi Spearing-6:39, and Emily-Kate OBrien-7:25.

In the 200m, Alison Kaba earned first place honors with a 27.7, while Catherine Nakato took third with a 31.6, Grecia DeLa Gala placed fourth with a 33.4, and Kenya Texeira took fifth place with a 33.7.

Kellie Haggerty took second place in the shot put with a distance of 24’3. Coming in sixth place, Tara Baptiste threw a 17’0. Also competing, Lissa Sanon tossed for throw of 16’1.

In Discus, Theodora Babilye earned a second place spot with a throw of 55’3, while Leslie Duarte took third with a 54’4.

Catherine Nakato’s 71’4 Javelin throw earned top spot, while Casey Delaney took fourth with a 40’6, with Meghan Lynch earning fifth with a 34’11.

In the Long Jump, Alison Kaba took second place with a 12’6 and Saragrace Magre placed third with a distance of 11’2.

Melissa Baptista’s Triple Jump effort was marked at 28’11.

In the 4x100m Relay, SHS placed second with a 55.3. Running: Saragrace Magre, Alison Kaba, Taylor Machado, and Melissa Baptista.

SHS also placed second in the 4x400m Relay with a 5:03. Running: Rachel Berry, Kellie Haggerty, Meghan Lynch, and Laxmi Spearing.

“We had some great performances by our underclassmen,” said Coach Charles O’Roarke. “Melissa Baptista won two events and looks very promising in the 100m hurdles and triple jump. She also ran the anchor leg on our 4x100m relay.  Delmi Hernandez ran the mile for the first time and ran a very fast 6:12. Alison Kaba stood out by winning the 20m and second in the Long Jump and ran on our relay. Catherine Nakato won the javelin and placed in the 200m. We have lots of potential and it was nice to see the freshmen and sophomores compete in their age group.”
