A routine traffic stop last week yielded more than officers bargained for as quantities of what appeared to be marijuana packaged for sales were discovered in the driver’s vehicle.

Police report that Juan Wilkins, 30, of Cambridge, had been stopped by a patrol unit that had run a registration check on the vehicle and found that the registered owner had outstanding warrants on record.

The investigating officers reportedly recognized the odor of marijuana present in the vehicle and a subsequent search turned up the packaged pot.

Wilkins was placed under arrest, charged with drug violation near a school or park, distribution of a class D drug, and operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
