When It is Still Winter
My Valspar sailcloth walls
against the snow
on the windowsill
needed a coat
of new paint.
Your tracks on my front walkway
are now covered so clean —
You left when it was falling,
perhaps you were never here at all
but I know you’ve visited
a hundred thousand times
this morning;
like a faint song
I heard birds singing
of springtime.
– Timothy Gager
