It is with considerable pride that we celebrate Somerville’s fourth consecutive year of being chosen as one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People by the America’s Promise Alliance. We certainly couldn’t agree more with that assessment, and this past weekend’s “Celebrate Somerville!” event held at the Somerville High School gymnasium gave residents an opportunity to express their sense of satisfaction and accomplishment, as well as to just plain have a good time with the kids themselves.
We know with certainty that the parents, educators, and administrators of our city have done everything in their power to make our community a safe and nurturing environment in which our children can thrive and grow stronger and smarter with the passing of time.
We are truly blessed that we can look back upon actions taken in the past, as well as plans we are making for the future, and realize at such a moment as this that we surely must be doing something right. That “something” represents the future of our society, and that is as important a thing as can possibly be imagined.
We may squabble and fuss from time to time over which policies to adopt and how best to expend our resources on education, recreation, and whatever else may be of benefit to our kids. But at the end of the day we can rest assured that we have done the best that we can for them, and that is all that we can ask of ourselves.
This honor that has once again been bestowed upon us is a testament to our commitment to making life as good as it can be for our children. Good job, Somerville.
