‘YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City’ initiative
Highlighting the international flavors of ten immigrant-run Somerville restaurants, The Welcome Project today released the 2012 YUM Restaurant Card. Supporting the ongoing work this Somerville non-profit, the YUM Restaurant Card and April 25, 2012 celebration feature the multicultural cuisine of Somerville while strengthening the voices of immigrant families across the city.
“Immigrant-run businesses contribute to the local and economy and the rich culture of Somerville,” said Warren Goldstein-Gelb, director of The Welcome Project. “YUM offers a great opportunity to support and explore our community by trying new restaurants and getting discounts on international cuisine throughout the year.”
Good through the end of December, the 2012 YUM Restaurant card offers a 10% discount off food orders of $25 or more at ten immigrant-run restaurants. This year’s YUM eateries are also taking part in the Shape Up Approved campaign, sponsored by the City’s Shape Up Somerville initiative, which makes Somerville a healthier place to live, work, and eat by tagging healthier menu options at participating restaurants.
For one night only, these ten restaurants will come together, offering tastings of their cuisine for the second annual YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City celebration and fundraiser. Set for April 25, 2012 at the Center for Arts at the Armory, the 2012 YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City celebration will feature live entertainment and international tastes from around Somerville.
