Receives endorsement of incumbent Register Gene Brune
Six-Term Alderman Cites Financial, Customer Service and Government Expertise as Key Qualifications in Bid to Serve as Southern Middlesex County Register of Deeds
Ward 2 Alderman Maryann Heuston today announced her candidacy for Southern Middlesex County Register of Deeds, and was immediately endorsed by current Register Eugene C. Brune, who is stepping down after 24 years in office. Heuston has served as a Somerville alderman for twelve years, including five years as Chair of the Board’s Finance Committee. She currently works as Director of Ambulatory Business Operations for the Cambridge Health Alliance.
In accepting the endorsement, Heuston said, “As Register, Gene Brune set the highest standards for integrity, efficiency and customer service. After three decades as a senior operations and systems administrator for several major health care organizations – and after twelve years as an elected official with a focus on finance and budget issues – I’m confident that I can live up to those high standards as a customer-oriented, performance-driven and fiscally responsible Register of Deeds.”
“I’m very proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish in terms of enhancing the customer service, professionalism and technological efficiency of the Middlesex Registry of Deeds,” said Brune. “I have faith in Maryann’s ability to build on that legacy. She actually brings some valuable technical qualifications that I didn’t have when I first took on the job.”
In addition to the Brune endorsement, Heuston’s candidacy has also been backed by State Representative Tim Toomey (D-Cambridge), State Representative Denise Provost (D-Somerville), State Representative Carl Sciortino (D-Medford), and nine of her 10 colleagues on the Somerville Board of Aldermen.
“My background is uniquely suited to the position of Register of Deeds. Strong administrative and financial experience is crucial to maintaining quality of service for the largest and busiest land records office in New England,” Heuston said. “Over the next seven months, I will continue to build on the support of my fellow elected officials in state and local government, and on the encouragement I have received from friends and colleagues throughout Middlesex County, to bring my campaign to all of the 44 cities and towns in the southern district.”
Based in Cambridge, the Register of Deeds is responsible for maintaining an accurate, authoritative and accessible archive of real estate and land use documents for the entire Southern District of Middlesex County. The primary election is scheduled for September 6th.
