Nice little crowd on Mayor Joe‚Äôs annual Boston Harbor cruise last week, a well rounded group from Somerville was on board and from what we saw, everyone had a good time.  Lips were sealed, and no one wanted to be quoted, but the arrest of John Buonomo that evening caused quite a mixed bag of emotions from everyone on board.

                                                   ***************

Speaking of John Buonomo, we hear that the Queen of the Progressives already asked the Governor to appoint her as the Register should the position be opened up unexpectedly. We were in disbelief over hearing that, we thought her and John were extremely close, as John referred to himself as a Progressive. He’s not even tried yet, and already his so-called friends want a piece of the action.

Well John Buonomo already has one opponent to watch out for. Ward 5 Alderman Sean O’Donovan will be running as a write-in candidate for John Buonomo’s seat regardless of what happens with John’s legal troubles. Also rumored to be weighing a run is former Newton mayor Tom Concannon, who lost to Buonomo after a recount in 2000.

Happy birthday to Lisa Marie Tauro, who just turned 19 this week, Lisa is the daughter of one of our Publishers Billy Tauro, who by the way always has his camera with him. He doesn’t take bad pictures either.

Life-long resident and good friend Bruce Rollins was recently at Mt. Auburn Hospital getting his ticker looked at, it must have been that rumor that was floating around out there that he got married. We know that he and Nella are close but he hasn’t popped the question YET or has he?

Sunday the Somerville Police & Fire department parking lot had some flooding. It got so bad they had to evacuate about sixty vehicles from the premises because of severe flash flooding, two and half feet of water accumulated during the downpour. We hear everything is fine now.

Sympathy to the family of John Pierce, a long time resident who recently passed away, all those that knew him here in Somerville will miss him.

According to sources there is a problem at the Magoun Square popular drug store. Seems the store is infested with fleas! Our source even heard from one of the clerks that they hope it’s exterminated soon before it gets worse.

All is quiet on the campaign front, but the secular progressive’s sticker candidate Carl was seen out campaigning on Sunday in Medford all by himself, the PDSers were apparently at church. Or maybe not.

If arguments were still settled by way of a shootout, as they were in the Old West, Paul Dandini would never be wrong. The Richardson Street resident undeniably has Somerville’s quickest draw, but now he looks to increase that title to a global level. This Thursday, Dandini will face off against over 200 competitors from 19 states and four countries in the Steel Challenge, the premier speed-shooting championship in Piru, California, which nets the winner $300,000 and the title of "Fastest Gun Alive." You can catch the contest on the Outdoor Channel from Thursday to Saturday. We wish Paul the best of luck and want no trouble with him here.

Somerville’s most culturally diverse square is getting a dose of some unfamiliar culture tonight when Union Square Main Streets holds its monthly Second Wednesdays event from 5 to 8 p.m. A "professional caller" will be leading Somerville residents in some good ol’fashioned square dancing in Union Square Plaza. After the square dancing lesson, the caller will lead the group through a number of traditional American dances. Dancers of all ages an skills are encouraged to attend.

The trendy takeover is almost complete; one of Davis Square’s many hipster cafés is expanding into its final dollar store. By early September, Blue Shirt Café seating should occupy the space that once housed Dollar Days. The increase in size is expected to give the eatery an additional 30 seats, making the café a possible alternative for Dieselregulars constantly searching for space.

Attention theater buffs! The Lonesome Coyote Theater is presenting a free outdoor production of one of Shakespeare’s greatest plays: Romeo and Juliet.
