The New Year’s celebration is a time to examine what has transpired in the year that has gone by, and to look forward to what may be coming in the future.

This past year has brought many challenges to the fore. Whether it was dealing with the faltering economy, unemployment problems, or any number of other troubling issues, most Somervillians enjoy a certain resilience and tenacity of spirit that inspires us to hang in with an optimistic attitude.

It is that very feeling of optimism that should be embraced as we look forward into the brighter prospects that 2012 is likely to bring.

We feel certain that the new year will bring more opportunities to a greater number of people than ever before. Our society thrives on challenge and bounces back from adversity like no other. We can prove ourselves again and again, and we know we will make an even bigger imprint in the year to come.

We here at The Somerville News sincerely wish you and your loved ones a happy, healthy, and lucrative 2012.

May these blessings be shared between us all as we move together into a future that can be as bright and promising as we choose to make it.

We have the skills and the desire to make great things happen. Now is the time to appreciate what has gone, and to gratefully accept what is yet to come.

Let us celebrate with joy.
