Fire Department to receive $217,862
By Andrew Firestone
Senators Scott Brown and John Kerry managed to work together last week, bringing home an additional $1.28 million in federal funds for Massachusetts Fire Departments.
$217,862 will go to Somerville to be used to help fund equipment, such as vehicles and fire suits.
The funding, awarded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG), will go towards investments in training programs, new equipment, and safety gear that will help to increase the number of trained, “front line” firefighters available in communities.
“Our heroic firefighters deserve to have the equipment and training they need, and I am thankful these resources have been made available to our local departments,” said Sen. Brown. “I will continue working within the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee to make sure the Assistance to Firefighters Grants are there for the men and women who serve our communities.”
