Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Federal Realty Investment Trust this week announced that the first annual “Fireworks on the Mystic” will take place Saturday October 4 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. along the Mystic River waterfront across from the Assembly Square Marketplace. Beginning at 4 p.m., the event will include food catered by Redbones, family- and kid-friendly games and entertainment, and will conclude with a major fireworks display at 7:30 p.m. The event marks the beginning of the next phase of Assembly on the Mystic, the new mixed-use Assembly Square development. Demolition to clear the way for new construction began last week.
“Federal Realty has worked diligently and very successfully in planning for the future of Assembly Square, and to put together a terrific community event in Fireworks on the Mystic,” Curtatone said. “This event not only gives Somerville residents a chance to see some spectacular fireworks, but also offers an opportunity to join other area communities in celebrating the revitalization of the Mystic River waterfront. We plan to make this an annual event that will help us mark our progress in making the Mystic a cleaner, more beautiful and more accessible public resource for all our citizens to enjoy.”
Somerville’s event will be supported by similar efforts by Mayor Carlo DeMaria of Everett, and Mayor Richard Howard of Malden.
