Endicott College poet Samille Taylor looks for the steak beneath the sizzle. You’ll see what I mean with her poem Between The Looking Glass.
*
Between The Looking Glass
I do not look
Beyond the graham cracker
Gold that twinkles
In the sun light.
I cannot read
The truths
Of Love
With just one glance.
I am not mesmerized
By the way your stare
Locks me into place.
I will not melt
At the sight
Of your wink
From across the room.
Your eyes
Will not enslave
My love and
Pour its passion
On the ground.
I will not look
Into their seduction;
To your eyes
I close mine.
