When supporters of Somerville’s anti-poverty agency, the Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS), gather to celebrate another year of working to end poverty where we live, Somerville native and nationally-known comedian Tony V will add humor to the proceedings.  The CAAS Annual Meeting and Celebration is Tuesday, October 25, beginning at 7:00 p.m., at the Somerville City Club, 20 Innerbelt Road in Somerville.  It is free and open to the public.  To RSVP, email LSeiger@caasomerville.org or call 617-623-1392 x165.

Tony V offers street-wise humor tempered with a genuine feel for the human condition.  Tony V started his stand-up career at Boston’s Comedy Connection, “looking for a little stress relief” from his day job as a case worker at the Somerville Mental Health Center.  Since then, his career has included performances on HBO, the Arts and Entertainment Network, Comedy Central and MTV, plus big screen outings include State and Main, Celtic Pride, Housesitter, One Crazy Summer, and Shakes the Clown.

“In times like these, we need to laugh at our troubles and celebrate our victories,” said CAAS Executive Director Kimberly Smith-Cofield.  “At CAAS’ Annual Meeting, we will have a chance to do both.  Please join us on October 25th.”

The mission of the Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS) is to reduce poverty among local families and individuals while working to counteract, and whenever possible eliminate, the societal conditions that cause and perpetuate poverty.  For more information, see http://www.caasomerville.org/.
