The  Somerville High School auditorium was rocking and rolling on Thursday night, June 23. The third annual Somerville Students Rock concert was serenading the audience.

A joint effort between the Executive Department of Communications and the Somerville Music Department, Somerville Students Rock is a stage for young musicians to strut their stuff. The audience was entertained by soloists, duos, quartets, and bands. There were violins, trumpets, conga drums, and even a ukulele.  Renditions of popular songs were performed and the crowd was treated to a few original songs as well.

17 acts performed for an enthusiastic audience that also saw some of Somerville’s music teachers displaying their talents. The Healy School Rock Band, as well as The Somerville High School Jazz Ensemble began the enjoyable evening of music.

The acts that rocked the auditorium included Nick Lidano, Aiden Thomas and Tatianna Goss, The Puppet Show, Tayla Doherty and Jen Silva. Mary Gomes, The Go-Flo Casuals, Jason Aviles, Tony Melchor, and Kevin Hernadez. Also performing were Saladin Islam and Jesse Smith, Kaitlin Barnes and Graziella Oliveira, Heavier Than Heaven, Caroline Form, Graziella Oliveira and Karloina Meirele. The three-piece rock group Stainless ended the show with three original tunes.

Somerville Students Rock continues to proudly feature the city’s exciting young musicians, and their dedicated and talented instructors. Anyone who was in the audience Thursday night can assure you that music is indeed alive and well in Somerville.
