Crafted for flavor: one of the many delectable delights to be found at the Bizarre Bazaar this Sunday.

If you are looking for a fun free event, come to Union Made on June 19 in Union Square from 12 to 6 p.m.  Even though this is only Somerville’s second time hosting the event, the Bizarre Bazaar has been going strong for the past 10 years.  Originating in the Boston area, over time it has spread to Los Angeles, Cleveland, and San Francisco.  Although the winter Bazaar generally showcases 100-150 vendors, Sunday’s event will still have an impressive 50.

According to the Bizarre Bazaar staff, who promise that this is not your granny’s craft fair, the purpose of the event is to spread and inspire art and “to showcase all the talent that each of our vendors has, offering unique, one-of-a-kind products to shoppers in a fun, off-beat atmosphere.” In addition to crafts, the Bazaar will feature music as well as treats.

Since 2011, they have been an incorporated business group under the name of the Small Craft Advisory, and are “really just looking forward to more growth in the future.”

One talented artist and key figure in the Bizarre Bazaar is Alison Gordon, who first vended at the Boston Bizarre Bazaar in ’03 and became an organizer the next year. Gordon’s new project “Sew Mary Ann is currently preoccupied with hand sewing accessories and headbands out of felt, buttons and beads.”

And, although food is not the main focus of the Bizarre Bazaar, attendees can look forward to sampling Sweet Lydia’s delectable confections, made from scratch and which include gluten-free choices.

Car-share company ZipCar will be giving lifts to local residents. Union Square is also accessible by MBTA bus or a 15-20 minute walk from the Red Line T (Central, Harvard, Porter), or Orange Line Sullivan Station.  Buses going through the square include the 86, 87 and 91, or the 69 and 83 a few blocks over.

The event will be held outdoors with June 26 as a rain date should the need occur.  For more information and to see a list of vendors visit http://bazaarbizarre.org/boston, or contact Alison Gordon at 617-281-2043.
