Several SHS track standouts traveled to Burlington, VT, last Saturday for the spring New England Championship meet, having previously qualified at the Mass All-State meet last week at Bridgewater State.
It was a long, rainy day but it was a successful one for Andre Rolim. As was the case last week, the officials changed the heat assignments, this time acknowledging that they made an error, and had Andre in the wrong heat. He was ready for anything, though, and led from the gun in his 3rd heat of 5 and placed 6th overall (49.81).
The rain and wind may have affected times but Andre had the second best Massachusetts finish just behind the Mass All-State Champion Nathan Pierre Louis (Waltham High), who was 4th in 49.41.
It was nice to see some of the top 6 praising Andre on the award podium for what he accomplished in the indoor season, when he won the 600m race at the Indoor New England Championship meet.
On the girls side, Nicole Genard placed 3rd in the hurdles and 2nd in the Javelin.
If the medals weren’t enough, on the morning ride up to Burlington High (Vermont) from the hotel, Nicole and Andre got to see a moose for the first time in the grass divide between the North/South sections of I/89.
