SCATV and the Somerville Arts Council are excited to announce “Somerville in Shorts 2011,” an evening of locally made experimental and animated short films projected on a large outdoor screen in the heart of Union Square. Gather on July 8 in the Square at 7:00 for live music, and when the sun goes down, the films go up.

The program is produced by Somerville Community Access Television as part of the 2011 ArtsUnion event series of the Somerville Arts Council. “Somerville in Shorts” is free and open to all.

“Somerville in Shorts” is dedicated to the memory of Somerville’s favorite animator, Karen Aqua, who passed away on May 30, 2011. With her husband Ken Fields, Karen taught animation at SCATV  and inspired many of her students to continue creating animated films of their own. Karen was instrumental in creating the first “Somerville in Shorts” in 2009. Her kind and creative spirit will be missed.
