Somerville police were dispatched to a residence on Meacham Street early last Sunday morning after it was reported that an unwanted woman was trespassing in the backyard.

Residents of the apartment reportedly advised police that they had a few friends over the night before and that the party broke up at around 4:00 a.m., but one woman, Vivian James, 25, who lived nearby, refused to leave and began banging on the back door.

The officers at the scene were then escorted to the backyard area and reportedly found James sitting in front of the back door. When offered an escort to her own apartment James refused and indicated that she felt that the residents were racist and that this was why she was refused entry, according to police.

The officers reportedly explained that the residents just wanted to retire for the night and once again asked James to leave, advising her that if she did not that she would be placed under arrest. After repeatedly refusing to leave, a police transported unit was called in, police said.

While waiting for the wagon, Justin Pabrezis, 26, came out of the same apartment where James resides and began swearing at police, according to reports. He allegedly made threatening remarks to the police officers and made his way towards them as the transporting unit was arriving.

According to police, James began resisting violently and it became difficult to get her into the police vehicle. She was reportedly advised that she would be chemically sprayed if she continued to resist, and eventually was sprayed in order to get her into the vehicle, police said.

Pabrezis then punched two officers in their chests and was immediately taken to the ground, police stated. After struggling with officers and making threats, he too was sprayed and then decided to cooperate, according to police.

Both James and Pabrezis were transported from the scene at that time. James was charged with trespassing, assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest. Pabrezis was charged with disorderly conduct, threat to commit a crime, assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest.
