The Somerville Public Schools (SPS) is offering free Preschool Screenings for 3- to 5-year-old children residing in Somerville. Screenings are scheduled on February 26, and April 30, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Capuano Early Childhood Center, 150 Glen Street, Somerville, MA.

All Somerville parents, guardians, and caregivers are invited to bring their children to participate in these screening events. Screenings are by appointment only and advanced registration is required. Participation in the screening program is free and optional.

Somerville Public Schools offers screenings yearly as a way to assess children’s developmental progress and identify children who may need further evaluation for special education services. Screenings provide an opportunity for families to ensure their children receive the support they need for a successful early learning experience.

“We are really excited to offer Preschool Screenings this year,” said Kathleen Bailer, Director of Early Education and Care. “Through this program, we are able to provide supports early in life that put Somerville children on a solid path toward success at the start of their educational journeys.”

Parents, guardians, and caregivers with concerns about their child’s development are encouraged to register for an appointment. The screenings are available to all Somerville residents and are conducted by trained professionals in a supportive, child-friendly environment.

Preschool Screening in Somerville is a collaborative effort between the Somerville Public Schools Department of Early Education and Care and the Somerville Public Schools Special Education Department.

The Department of Early Education and Care oversees various programs for families, including free public preschool programs, Head Start classrooms, and private childcare providers across the city, connecting Somerville children to high-quality early education and care. The Special Education Department is responsible for ensuring all students who require special education services are identified and their individualized learning needs are met in the least restrictive environment possible.
