Newstalk – March 23

On March 23, 2011, in Latest News, by The Somerville Times

The latest word out of the Council on Aging is this:  Lady J was seen last week on Thursday taking it upon herself to remove large piles of The Somerville News from the building where the Council of Aging office is, apparently she was seen by a co-worker who put the papers back in the rack.  But apparently the next morning on Friday Lady J was once again seen, we heard, covering up The Somerville News pile of papers with other papers, so they couldn’t be found, again the other person uncovered the papers.  Once we heard what happened  we sent out our scouts to check out the boxes throughout the city and even though we know the paper is popular every single box was empty, hmmmmmm wonder if this means?    The last time someone did this was back in the Mayor August’s administration when the Farm Team printed some bad articles on the mayor several city employees ran around the city and scooped up a lot of the papers.  We probably should remind everyone now that we are online.

Speaking of the Council on Aging we thought that Cindy Hickey was supposed to be back at work this week but as of Tuesday we hear that probably won’t happen, so if she’s not there, is the COA run by Lady J? Or Joan the mouth? Yikes!

***************

We hear that Mayor Joe Curtatone and his wife Nancy along with the four boys enjoyed a nice deserved vacation in Florida, back to work this week he is and like everyone else that goes on a little trip, probably hectic with meetings all week long.

***************

We heard correctly that President of the Board of Aldermen Ms. Rebekah has been quoted as saying that the Somerville Police Department is better off on Bicycles instead of cruisers, bet that went over well down at the station!

Wedding bells are ringing for our friend and popular long time Somerville resident Leigh Harkins Haverty and fiancé Christopher Geron.  This Saturday a large contingency is heading up to Bethel, ME where they have selected to get married, after the ceremony, the honeymoon will be in Jamaica. We here at Newstalk wish them both the very best, they make a great couple.  We can’t believe Ricky isn’t in the wedding party, though (only the people who know Leigh will get that last comment).

Happy Birthday to popular all around nice lady Jody Connolly who is well known around Somerville for her sense of humor and her crazy boyfriend.   Also Happy Birthday to Michael Sullivan of the city, both have a great day.

Heard that former Registrar of Probate John Buonomo has been released from prison and has been transferred to a pre-release in town where he will fill out the remainder of his sentence.

***************

Seems that popular Democrat and city wide diversity officer for the Democratic party John Caruso is disgusted with all the Somerville incumbents and wants to put his name on the ballot for alderman at large. Maybe he has a shot since we hear that present Alderman at Large Bill White is thinking of not running for re-election, especially since he put his house on the market to sell, we hear he’s not enthused or excited about politics these days. We will keep you informed.

***************

Word is Ward 7 Alderman Bob Trane is not leaving, he has every intention of running for re-election this year even with the two current sort of announced candidates, we hear that Ms. Rossetti the School Committee person in Ward 7 is still considering running.  Bob will have his hands full for sure, with three ladies running against him, but we also know he’s not going to kick up and relax this year.
