Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the Somerville Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) are inviting residents to attend a community meeting to learn more about plans to open a warming center at the Cummings School to support the city’s unhoused population during the winter months.
Meeting Details:
- Date: Monday, November 18, 2024
- Time: 6 – 7:30 p.m.
- Location: Somerville High School Cafeteria (81 Highland Ave)
The meeting will include presentations by HHS, the Somerville Homeless Coalition, and the Somerville Police Department, to provide residents with an overview of the warming center’s services, operating plans, and public safety measures. Presentations from HHS, the Homeless Coalition, and the Police Department will outline how the warming center will function, its goals, and the anticipated benefits for Somerville’s most vulnerable residents.
Following these presentations, community members will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback during a Q&A session.
The City of Somerville is committed to supporting all members of the community, especially those who are most in need, and recognizes that access to safe, warm shelter during the colder months is a critical resource. This public meeting is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to engage residents, promote transparency, and gather input on essential community services.
