Lilacs Come Undone
The dream is a slow waterfall—
birds fly through the mist,
they wear casual suits
made from feathers and bones.
Rain falls and shimmers
in the sunlight
like a school of fish
turning together in the sea.
Inside a burning house
bees play violins—
I eat chocolate cake
at the kitchen table.
My friend knocks on the front door,
bringing a bouquet of weeping women,
drowsy with sleep and grief,
like lilacs come undone.
I wipe away words
floating in the air,
the library of my mind
holds a snapshot of verse.
— Michael Minassian
