Jessica Brayden

RESPOND, Inc., the oldest domestic violence agency in New England, is thrilled to announce the temporary return of Jessica Brayden to support the Philanthropy and Engagement Department as the organization celebrates its 50th year of service. Jessica Brayden, former CEO of RESPOND, brings her extensive experience and dedication back to the organization to further its mission of supporting survivors of domestic violence.

Victoria Helberg, CEO of RESPOND, expressed her enthusiasm about Brayden’s return, stating, “We are delighted to welcome Jessica back to RESPOND. Her deep understanding of our mission and her passion for supporting survivors will be invaluable as we celebrate this milestone year and continue to expand our reach and impact.”

Jessica Brayden shared her excitement, saying, “It is an incredible honor to be invited back to RESPOND to support the work and organization that I am so passionate about. I look forward to spearheading all philanthropic efforts, with a special focus on the 50th anniversary gala, and contributing to our ongoing efforts to provide safety, support, and opportunities for self-sufficiency for all survivors.”

Greta Hagen, former Director of Philanthropy and Engagement, has transitioned to join Jane Doe Inc., the statewide coalition. RESPOND wishes her the best in her new role and thanks her for her many contributions.

As RESPOND marks its 50th anniversary, the organization reflects on its origins and growth. Founded in the 1970s by four women from Somerville who opened their homes as safe havens for women fleeing abuse, RESPOND has grown to support all survivors seeking safety and justice. Today, RESPOND provides comprehensive services, including healthy relationships and violence prevention programming to community members of all ages.

Under Brayden’s leadership as CEO from 2008 to 2022, RESPOND saw significant growth, tripling the number of programs, budget, and staff. Her dedication to expanding opportunities for safety and self-sufficiency for survivors has left a lasting impact.

Since assuming the role of CEO in October 2022, Victoria Helberg has continued to propel RESPOND forward. Helberg has expanded the organization’s outreach and advocacy efforts, adding a wide array of programs for youth, including support for pregnant and parenting teens, as well as rapid and transitional housing units for youth. Her visionary approach to program design and implementation has been instrumental for increasing the capacity of RESPOND’s safe housing solutions programs and extending its services to more communities.

RESPOND is excited to move forward with the combined strengths of Helberg’s leadership and Brayden’s renewed involvement, ensuring continued support and innovation for survivors of domestic violence.
