The Middlesex County Superior Court hosted a Student Art Exhibit Launch and luncheon on Friday, June 21, at the courthouse at 200 Tradecenter Drive in Woburn.

Over the previous six months, the Clerk of Courts for Middlesex County, Michael A. Sullivan, solicited works of art with themes of justice, equity, and diversity from high schools across Middlesex County.  Ultimately, eleven pieces were submitted for permanent display in the courthouse.

The following student artists were honored and awarded a framed certificate at the event:

  • Rhianon Anderson, Tewksbury Memorial High School
  • Emily Bassetti, Hudson High School
  • Samaira Bedi, Somerville High School
  • Ambika Bhardwaj, Somerville High School
  • Xavian Gonzalez, Greater Lowell Technical High School
  • Sofia Ochoa, Stoneham High School
  • Jay Permatteo, Francis W. Parker Charter Essential School
  • Hannah Schwichtenberg, Natick High School
  • Tanishka Singh, Weston High School
  • Maya Rosen, Holliston High School
  • Daanya Usmani, Westford Academy

Families, friends, teachers, school administrators, and many Trial Court employees were in attendance.  The speakers included Associate Justice of the Superior Court Laurence Pierce, Clerk Michael A. Sullivan, Assistant Clerk Lia Marino and Office Manager Eric Guzzi.

In his remarks, Clerk Sullivan said, “Your artwork will bring some beauty and reflection to our courthouse.”  He also encouraged the students to consider careers in the Trial Court and law.

Presently, some of the artwork is on temporary display in the clerk’s office until permanent installation is complete.

The project received funding from a generous Massachusetts Trial Court Employee Innovation Grant.
