The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) recently detected West Nile virus (WNV) in mosquito samples from Cambridge.
While no human or animal cases of WNV or Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) have been reported, the City of Somerville strongly encourage community members to take steps to protect themselves from mosquitoes and mosquito-borne illnesses:
• Apply insect repellent
• Remove or drain standing water around your home from containers such as buckets, tires, and wading pools
• Install or repair screens
