A Cambridge man ditched his car and broke into a home to elude police after they allegedly saw him make a marijuana deal March 1.

Alberto Brito, 29, of 30 Newtowne Court, was arrested at 14 Governor Winthrop Road and charged with drug violation near a school or park, possession to distribute a class D drug, resisting arrest, failure to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony and warrant charges.

Police said their observations of a woman walking along Marshall Street led them to Brito who picked the woman up and drove her around the block before she left the car. Police said a short ride is common in street level drug sales.

Police stopped Brito on Pearl Street but he allegedly drove away at a high rate of speed after a brief stop. When police found the vehicle, Brito was gone.

Police said Brito broke into 16 Governor Winthrop Rd. and was found hiding on the second floor.
